Goodreads Synopsis:

The highly anticipated coming-of-age story for the world’s greatest super hero: WONDER WOMAN by the # 1 New York Times bestselling author LEIGH BARDUGO.
She will become one of the world’s greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .

Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at @ Breaking The Spine, which spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

REASONS

Let’s preface this with I AM COMPLETELY UNABLE TO NOT READ ANYTHING BARDUGO PUTS OUT! haha! I am so happy that DC has tasked her with the unbelievably tough challenge that will be Wonder Woman. As a female myself, I want to see Diana Prince/Wonder Woman done right & who better than The Queen Of Dark herself? am I right? I’ve always been a big fan of the Amazons & wondered why they are covered so scarcely. We recently saw Gal Gadot tackle the role of Wonder Woman in Batman Vs. Superman. I’ll admit, I had my doubts she would pull it off. She silenced my doubts though & for that I am thankful because now we get to see more of her on the big screen. Now more than ever, I want to see the same success in this book. For some reason Wonder Woman has been a character that many have feared taking on. The general feeling was (maybe still is) that whoever took on that project, would have the responsibility of doing it justice. Why? because women of all ages & generations will be watching. The boys have their pick of the litter when it comes to superheroes but us gals have very few & Diana is a classic 😉

P.S. last but NOT least…Helen Of Troy’s descendant is in this book?!?!?! YES PLEASSSSSSE!

Are any of you looking forward to the 1st book in the DC Icons Series? What are your thoughts on Leigh Bardugo writing Wonder Woman?

  1. Great pick for this week Lilly. I’ve never read a superhero book like this before (I’ve read books about superheroes but not Marvel or DC ones if that makes sense) but I do love Leigh Bardugo so anything she writes is automatically going onto my to-read/to-buy lists.
I know nothing about Wonder Woman but I love superhero movies and the trailer looks beyond amazing so I really want to learn more about her, and this seems like a great starting point at least! 😀

    1. Thanks Beth! Leigh Bardugo revealed that she is part of this DC project has underway with a couple of other YA authors (Sarah J Maas & Marie Lu) during the NYC Strand Book signing for Crooked Kingdom. It’s all I could think about & the cover reveal was earlier this week 😆😆😆 Wonder Woman the movie has also been green lit so that’s also exciting news for 2017! 😆😆😆

      1. Lmao! Now that I’ve gotten ARCS approved by them I’m feeling more confident in hitting up the major publishing houses. So I will definitely look into getting my hands on an arc next year from Random 🤗🤗🤗

      2. Me, too! Would you believe that the publisher tracked me down to give me an ARC of Gilded Cage? I was so shocked! I now have an ebook and your copy that looks amazeballs on my shelf. 🙂 We can start stalking them together for an ARC of this book. I wonder if they’d have any at BookCon because you, Gretchen, Larkin, and me will need to kick some serious ass to get in line for one. 🙈🙊😎

      3. No, I haven’t bought my tickets yet. I’m still waiting to find out which job I’m getting, which means I have no idea about my house and everything else. They are taking their good old time before the holidays. 😂 Once I’m all situated in my new house, I’ll have a better idea if I can fly to NY. Do they sell out of the tickets right away? If so, I might have to buy them now and if I can’t go give them away.

      4. Oh yes, you have quite a lot going on. This is my first time buying BookCon tickets & I got mine on the pre-sale date (Monday). In October I had purchased ComiCon tickets since they were hosting a smaller BookCon. It’s still in the Javits, not sure if they’ve sold out or how fast they go but the crowd seems to be getting larger. With the changes to BEA next year, many will prob buy tickets to Bookcon if they can’t get into BEA.

      5. Hmm… Let me check out the prices. If they’re not so bad, I might buy them now. I could always sell them or give them away to one of my followers. Well, I guess I better look at the prices first. I’m sure they’re way more money than I realize.

    1. Lol yea she actually revealed this bit of news at the NYC Strand book signing of Crooked Kingdom. It’s a DC project with a couple of other YA authors. I believe Marie Lu is next with Bateman, Matt De La Peña will do Superman, and Sarah J Maas will follow with Catwoman 😉 exciting 2017 awaits! *happy dance*

  3. ooohhhhh, myyyy goood! This book sounds amazing. I hadn’t planned on reading this book, mostly because I barely knew it existed, but I’m definitely down to watch the movie and my interest in the book has been piqued!!!
But to be honest, the reason I am suddenly super excited about this book is because Leigh Bardugo is writing it! I don’t think DC could have picked a better write for this project!

    1. HAHA! It’s almost too good to be true right? LOL I’m loving how 2017 is already shaping out to be in the book world. So many exciting new books where authors are stepping outside of their comfort zones, LOVE IT! & totally agree, DC couldn’t have chosen better for Wonder Woman than Leigh Bardugo <3!
